Privacy Policy
0 LUX ("the app") is a camera app that runs on your iPhone. The short version: your footage stays on your device. We don't collect it, we can't see it, and there is nothing to sign up for. The only piece of information that ever leaves your phone is your App Store purchase receipt, used to unlock and restore 0 LUX PRO.
App Store privacy label: Data Not Linked to You — Purchase History.
One data type, used only to make the app work, never linked to your identity, never used for tracking. Nothing else is collected.
What we collect
Purchase history, and nothing else. When you buy 0 LUX PRO, restore it, or open the Pro screen, the app checks the status of your purchase (see Purchases below). That check involves your App Store purchase receipt and a random, anonymous identifier generated on your device. It is not linked to your name, email address, Apple Account, or anything else that identifies you, and it is never used for advertising or tracking.
Beyond that, the app does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics SDKs, no advertising or tracking SDKs, no use of the advertising identifier (IDFA), and no servers of our own. Nothing you shoot is ever uploaded anywhere by the app.
Permissions and why we ask for them
0 LUX asks for three iOS permissions, each at the moment it is first needed. Each one is used for exactly one thing:
- Camera — to show the live viewfinder and capture video and photos. The night-vision effect is rendered on your phone's graphics chip in real time; camera frames are processed on the device and never leave it.
- Microphone — to record the audio track of your videos (asked the first time you press REC). The optional TAPE AUDIO treatment (hiss and narrowed bandwidth) is applied on the device. The microphone is only used to capture sound for your recordings.
- Photos — to save your recordings and photos to your camera roll (asked at your first save), and, with 0 LUX PRO, to let you pick an existing video or photo for Import & Bake. The app only touches items you capture with it or explicitly select yourself.
The MOTION FX setting reads the phone's motion sensors so the tape static reacts to movement. Those readings are used on the device in the moment and are never stored or transmitted.
You can change any of these permissions at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security. Turning off Camera or Photos will stop the app from shooting or saving, but it won't affect anything already in your library.
Where your footage lives
Everything you capture is written straight to the Photos app on your iPhone with the effect already baked in. The app keeps no separate library and no copy anywhere else.
While a recording is in progress, the file is written to the app's private on-device storage. If a recording is interrupted (a phone call, low battery, the app being closed), that file is recovered and saved to your camera roll the next time you open the app, then removed from the app's storage. If you delete the app, anything still in its private storage is deleted with it; the videos and photos you already saved stay in Photos, under your control.
Network use
The app works fully offline. The only connections it makes are to Apple's App Store and to the purchase-verification service described below, and only to show the price of 0 LUX PRO, complete a purchase, or confirm that a purchase is unlocked. No footage, photos, audio, or camera frames are ever sent over the network.
Purchases
0 LUX PRO is a one-time purchase — not a subscription — processed by Apple through your Apple Account. We never receive payment details, card numbers, or billing information; Apple handles all of it under the Apple Privacy Policy. The purchase is governed by Apple's standard End User License Agreement.
To confirm that Pro is unlocked, and to restore it if you move to a new iPhone, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-verification service. It receives the App Store purchase receipt and a random, anonymous identifier generated on your device — no name, email address, contacts, location, or payment information — and uses it only to check the status of your purchase. This is the "Purchase History" item on the App Store privacy label. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy for how that service handles this information.
Children
The app is rated 4+. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children; the only data it handles is the anonymous purchase record described above.
Your rights
We hold no data that identifies you. Your footage is in your own Photos library, entirely under your control. The only record associated with the app is the anonymous purchase status described above, which we cannot tie back to you; if you would like it deleted anyway, email us and we will request its deletion from the purchase-verification service. If you have a question under GDPR, CCPA, or any other privacy law, email us and we'll answer it.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the app ever changes how data is handled, this page will be updated first, the effective date at the top will change, and the change will be clearly explained in the app before it takes effect.
